How to stay healthy when you travel

We put so much effort into living a healthy lifestyle while not on the go, why should we stop trying to be healthy when we travel? Yes, vacation is a time to let loose and have some fun, but you can still enjoy local cuisine that is healthy and delicious and even find some time to exercise without sparing your adventurous spirit.
You can start with taking precautions on your flight or however you decide to travel. Make sure you continue to hydrate yourself, especially if you are flying and have some pre and during flight drinks. In between your drinks, try some orange juice or Gatorade. If you can, try to have no coffee and minimal sugar, but just as having no alcohol, that can be difficult. Just make sure you continue to drink water and have some light snacks as well. If you are able to, try to stretch your legs every so often and flex your ankles.
When eating, try to eat as nutritious as possible. Carbs are cheaper than proteins, so be aware of that when trying to stretch your traveling dollar. Try to eat protein in your day’s largest meal. You can also pack some vitamins to help regulate your diet. Though you may want to try and eat at as many local places as possible, try to use good judgement. Maybe make a list of places you want to eat and try to have more healthy places on it then unhealthy.
Another way to stay healthy when traveling, and just in general, is to keep clean by washing your hands, using hand sanitizer and avoid touching your face. You can pack travel hand sanitizers to have on your person at all times. You should also try to pack a first-aid kit. It doesn’t have to be huge, but it should include some of the essentials in case you fall ill during your trip. Those include bandages, antibiotic ointment, fever and pain reducer, motion sickness remedy, thermometer, medicine for allergic reactions, stomach aches and cold and flu as well as rehydration tablets.

If you are worried about trying to find time to exercise while traveling to help stay healthy, but don’t want to take too much time out of your vacation, try to outline workouts that only take around 20 minutes each morning. You can also try to do activities while traveling such as hiking, kayaking, taking a bike tour or walking to attractions.
Other rituals you should add into your traveling routine should be trying to wear sunscreen daily, get enough sleep and drink plenty of water, at least 16 ounces a day. Small rituals such as these can make your trip even more amazing because your health will stay intact.
